Mommy Makeover FAQ

Precision Plastic Surgery Answers Your Mommy Makeover Questions

If you aren’t happy with your body post-pregnancy, Precision Plastic Surgery can provide you with a mommy makeover! You won’t find a better plastic surgery facility in Austin, TX. Our mommy makeovers include a breast augmentation and breast lift to help you enhance the size and appearance of your chest, liposuction to get rid of persistent baby weight, and a tummy tuck to help remove any excess skin and tighten your abdominal structures. Pregnancy and childbirth can be remarkable experiences, but they can also leave you feeling like less than yourself. Take some much needed “You” time and prioritize feeling good in your body again. Our board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. John McFate, can walk you through your options and discuss your mommy makeover goals with you during your initial consultation.

  1. When Is the Best Time for a Mommy Makeover?

It is best to have a mommy makeover procedure after you are done having children. We also recommend that you wait until after you are finished breastfeeding your youngest child to have a mommy makeover. Waiting six months after you’ve finished breastfeeding allows the breasts to stabilize in shape and size, which helps us conduct an accurate surgical assessment. Finally, it is also recommended that new mothers maintain their post-pregnancy weight for approximately six months before seeking a mommy makeover. Similar to the breasts, this helps ensure the body is stabilized and recovered from the stresses of pregnancy and childbirth before you undergo another major surgery.

  2. How Long is the Recovery?

Most mothers will be completely recovered from a mommy makeover in less than eight weeks.

  3. How Long Before I Can Go Back to Work?

Most patients are able to return to work after approximately two weeks.

  4. When Will My Sutures (Stitches) Be Removed?

Most non-dissolvable stitches will be removed within ten days from your procedure. You can expect other stitches to dissolve within six to eight weeks. It is crucial not to tamper with or pull on stitches when they become visible or palpable. You can call our team at any point during the recovery process if you are concerned with the state of your stitches or if you are in any discomfort.

  5. When Can I Begin Exercising?

It is best to wait at least six weeks before doing any intense or vigorous physical activity. Stitches need to dissolve, incisions need to heal, and muscles need to recover from the stress of each procedure. For optimal recovery, you must refrain from heavy lifting, intense exercise, and swimming for at least six weeks. You may do light exercise after a month if approved by our team.

  6. When Can I Drive?

You will be required to stay in the hospital for one to two nights before being released. Upon your release, you will need someone to drive you home and stay with you for an additional two days to monitor your recovery and aid with household activities. During this period, you should not drive. Our team will be sure to discuss your exact situation after your procedure, so we can give you a specific timeline. As a rule of thumb, you should wait until you feel healed enough to handle an emergency situation confidently before you get behind the wheel. Soreness or discomfort may inhibit your reaction time or ability to act quickly when needed, so wait until you are sure you’ll be able to appropriately respond on the road.

  7. How Long Before I Can Travel?

This will vary from patient to patient but plan to avoid any major travel for at least a month after surgery. Flying proves especially risky as it can increase the chance of embolism during recovery.
