Austin Breast Reduction Surgery

Lighter, Lifted, & Proportional Breasts

Breast reduction, or reduction mammoplasty, is an excellent procedure to decrease the size of the breasts and correct breast ptosis (sagging of the breast and nipple). After breast reduction, the breast can have a more youthful appearance and improved higher position of the nipple and areola.

Enlargement of the breasts, commonly called macromastia, can cause neck and back pain or skin irritations in the fold beneath the breast. Dr. McFate, operating out of Precision Plastic Surgery in Austin, TX, is fully trained in the latest techniques of breast reduction and contouring to produce optimal results.

Who Is a Candidate?

Our Austin area breast reduction patients often seek us out because of chronic pain in the neck and back. Some patients may also have skin irritations beneath the breast. It’s not surprising, then, that a woman with large pendulous breasts enduring any of these problems is an excellent candidate for a breast reduction. Patients should be in good health, a non-smoker, and have reasonable expectations. Women should not be currently breast-feeding.

Some patients may have the option of an insurance plan covering the expense of the procedure. During your visit, we can discuss the different companies and plans that participate with our practice.

The Operation

The procedure can be performed in an outpatient setting at our Austin area plastic surgery center. We can also perform a breast reduction in Austin area hospitals with the option of an overnight stay. Either way, the procedure typically takes 3-5 hours of operative time and is performed under IV anesthesia or general anesthesia.

Incisions are typically made around the areola, along the front of the breast, and beneath the breast. After several months, these scars will fade and become inconspicuous. Depending on the amount of breast tissue removed, you may require drains for 1-2 weeks after surgery. A special bra will be worn as your breasts heal.

After surgery, a patient will need to refrain from any strenuous activity that can elevate the heart rate for two weeks. Patients are commonly surprised with the immediate relief of their pain and the overall improved shape and appearance of the breast.

Don’t continue to let your breasts weigh you down. Contact Precision Plastic Surgery today and schedule a consultation with Dr. McFate to plan your Austin breast reduction. Wherever you are in life, we can help you look your best.
